Where can I get more ENERGY? part 1/2

What is EATING for Energy?

I’ve been reading a lot about where we get our energy from for 3-4 months now as I’ve been on the search to increase my own energy. My findings have been VERY interesting and I’d like to share what I’m learning! These next few posts will summarize what I teach in my free 10 day online class “Eating for Energy” and the LIVE format class I’ve just started teaching in my community.

It is helpful I think, to understand where I’ve come from, so let me just give you a brief overview- I’ve always struggled with my weight and body image. I’ve struggled with energy and mental clarity since having children. I have had my ups and downs, but the three things that have made the biggest positive changes in my life, including a weight loss of -49 lbs, and building a successful full time income producing business from home while raising my children, are my food choices, exercise choices, and my reading/listening choices. So how I’m moving my body, how I’m feeding my body, and how I’m feeding my brain have changed my life drastically over the past 5 years.

Let’s dive into the content here…. because, if I were you, I’d be chomping at the bit saying things at my computer like, “Hurry up and just tell me! I don’t need to know your back story lady! I believe you… come on now!” lol! Just sayin….

Ok. So part 1: What are sources of ENERGY? We all want some, so where are they?

I’d love for you to visualize a pumpkin seed.

This tiny little seed, came from a huge squash grown through the fall, and then died or was eaten, but the seed was left. Where did this seed come from? How did it grow? Where did it get its nutrition? From the squash. Right? Where did it get its fuel to grow? It had to have soil to protect the seed during germination, and it had to have soil with key nutrients to support its growth, and water to keep the soil from drying out, and something else.

SUNLIGHT.

Our sun is a magnificent and 100% necessary component to all life on Earth. This seed, sitting here on the table, in very fact, has somehow through the miracle of Mother Nature, stored SUNLIGHT inside of it. It is storing ENERGY. Energy from our SUN! And it just holds onto that energy until it is given a few other components to begin using that energy to grow and reproduce. Sound familiar? Ya… human life is super similar. πŸ˜‰Β  But thats another post.

Humans can get ENERGY into our bodies, and provide OUR cells with ENERGY by eating whole foods like this pumpkin seed. I’d like to drive home an important point here- artificial foods and ingredients do NOT have this stored, natural energy from our sun.Β  These artificial sources put into our foods are foreign to our bodies and often have bad effects.Β

But back to our GOOD, natural foods sources. Let’s look at the food chain for a second. The cow eats the (hopefully) natural grass from a field nurtured with good sunlight! That energy is stored in the milk and muscle of the cow. We sustainably and ethically harvest the cow’s milk or its meat and we can also take part in this energy originally from the grass!

Plants are SO amazing. We need to be eating more of them. The more we can get our food from the START of this food chain, the more pure our energy, the easier our digestion, and the happier our minds are. πŸ™‚

So this is source #1. Our whole foods. What are some of the whole foods you love? Here is a small sample of the whole foods I love to eat regularly:

Spinach

Romaine lettuce

Cucumbers

Broccoli

Carrots

tomatoes

apples

berries

bananas

pineapple

peaches

pears

peas

all kinds of beans

soy (tofu, soymilk)

walnuts

peanuts

raw honey

pecans

pumpkin seeds

sunflower seeds

chia seeds

flax seeds

wheat (whole flour, germ, hot cereals)

brown rice

oats

barley

quinoa

corn

onions

mushrooms

dark chocolate

and lots of powerful herbs like basil, oregano, matcha, and cilantro

and lots of powerful spices like cinnamon, turmeric, cayenne pepper, and pink Himalayan salt.

Do you like some of the same things? I will also choose eggs, turkey, chicken, and fish a few times a week as great protein sources.

Ok. So where else can we get energy?

Guess what? #2… is energy you control with your own BODY through your THOUGHTS and physical HEALTH. Have you considered this before? We are SO busy these days that we have forgotten to take time for physical rejuvenation- and how often that NEEDS to happen, to sustain our energy stores. We have turned to sugar, stimulants, and pricey vacations trying to bring renewal into our exhausted lives. I speak from experience. πŸ™‚ Poor management of your physical energy from how you care for your body, to how you care for your MIND, and if you learn energy saving and energy flowing techniques makes a HUGE overall impact in your daily energy levels.

Now- I am well aware that bodies are all different, and the abilities of each body and mind are different because our lives are all different. You can visit with your doctor and get a blood and hormone panel done to learn where your physical health and hormones lie, and have them give you a mental assessment as well if you are really struggling in this area. Once you know the pieces to the game, you can be strategic in earning more WINS in your life. πŸ™‚ And if winning more ENERGY is on your list of needs, this might be something for you to look into.

Ok. So how do we gain more energy from our own bodies? Well there’s a few things I’ve learned. Some of it might sound like “woo-woo” stuff, but guess what, it works. The first one is sunlight. Yes, we are like plants. πŸ˜€ We need sunlight on our skin which miraculously creates the process to build vitamin D in our bodies which offer an energy source from within. I’ve also learned that a lot of the fatigue that I and many others have experienced is simply fatigue in our minds and eye balls. Did you know that studies show that people who close there eyes for just a few minutes each hour during a break, have less fatigue? People who meditate with their eyes closed for a few sessions a day always report more positive energy in their days. Our eyes are processing a million things a minute- GIVE them a rest throughout your day. And our MIND can be stimulated with good, positive reading 10-20 minutes a day. Our mind can also be rejuvenated with more oxygen. How do you get better blood flow up to your head? Stand up and move. Just gently bounce in place. Maybe walk around the office (or the house), get a drink, etc. And breathe! Breathing more deeply helps SO much! In through your nose, out through your mouth. I learned a LOT of these tips from the number performance coach in the world, Brendan Burchard. I am a graduate of his High Performance Academy and was blessed to be coached by him in person over 4 days this past March 2018. I can tell you that all of the energy tips and techniques he shared from his worldwide studies on energy have greatly affected my energy since that experience! And I’m so glad you are reading this and learning a few things to help your energy from within too. One thing I teach in my live classes to boost mental energy and overall clarity in just 2 minutes (right? isn’t this so cool?) is a simplified version of what is called a qigong cupping procedure. This comes to us from the ancient practice of TaiChi. Opening the energy meridians of the body through strategic stimulation of the body. I hope you can attend one of my classes to see how to do it. πŸ˜‰ This video shares something that has changed my sleeping ability and my ability to move from one energy moment to the next. Example, coming home from a fantastic date with my husband to a chaos filled home with my 5 kids yelling for me. OR from a busy day, to laying down at night with a million things in my brain. This release technique works my friends! Learn it and try it!

We can also gain mental energy through good music, a positive conversation with a loving friend or family member, and as I mentioned earlier, just good, positive reading.

What energy building habits do YOU have right now? What are some sources of energy you can pull from this week? Take ACTION in this my friends! I know how much we ALL want to live great lives, and to be remembered as the friend, the mom, the sister, the spouse that was THERE.

Part 2 will dive deep into digestion and exactly HOW that energy from food can be maximized ALL day without having to EAT all day. πŸ™‚ If you have weight to lose, or are pre-diabetic, diabetic, have thyroid issues, post cancer treatment, etc this will be great for you to learn to EAT for ENERGY!

until then-
